MySpace introduces its music site in the UK

December 4, 2009 in News Roundup

myspaceUKThe launch of MySpace Music is a response to Facebook’s popularity in the UK.

The service, which was launched on December 3, utilises social networking by allowing users to share their discoveries of songs, videos and playlists.

The News Corp-owned service is free to access and it is hoped that revenue will be generated by its share of concert ticket and merchandise sales.

Courtney Holt, president of MySpace Music, told news agency Reuters that the launch of the UK service is indicative of the direction the company wants to move in.

He said: “We want to be a social content and media platform and we believe heavily in the socialization of content as core to our future strategy. It’s not about just a passive listening experience. We want you to be active, we want you to go places, we want you to search for music.”
