Worldwide digital community gathers in the North East

The third annual Thinking Digital conference put the spotlight of the digital industy firmly on the North East.

The two-day event saw The Sage Gateshead filled with world-renowned technologists and digital specialists from across the globe. The conference has become an annual ‘major event’ for the science and technology industry as well as for the region.

Lauren Laverne, a Sunderland-born TV presenter, kicked off the two-day event on Wednesday by highlighting its importance for the North East – which she describes as a “technology industry hotbed”.

Hollywood screenwriter guru preaches to the North East

Digital media and creative industry people were invited along when storytelling legend Robert McKee arrived at Tyneside Cinema last Monday with his famous touring seminar and sharp tongue.

Two intensive days later the audience had heard about Aristotle’s classical story design, practical points on how to structure a story and that modern European cinema sucks.

After 25 years of teaching about storytelling, McKee doesn’t really need to watch his words. Having the likes of John Cleese and Charlie Kaufman as regular clients is surely a good reference.

Apple overtakes Microsoft as iPads hit UK stores

green_apple (1) Apple has passed Microsoft in market value claiming its place as the biggest technology company in the world.

Changes in the share prices on Wednesday meant that Apple’s total value grew to $222bn, allowing it to leapfrog past Microsoft’s $219bn.

The Californian-based tech giant is now the second biggest company in the world, paling in comparison only to the oil giant ExxonMobil with a market value of $282bn.
