North East-based music site targets global success

Sunderland entrepreneur, Kieron Donoghue’s Sharemyplaylists.com is set for global success after receiving a six figure investment from local investors.
Launched in March last year, the social media site has become a popular place for Spotify users to share playlists and talk about their favourite artists and bands.
The site currently has over 17,000 playlists which makes it the largest site of its kind. It’s working in co-operation with major record labels and features celebrity playlists from the likes of Robbie Williams, Alicia Keys, Will Young, The Gorillaz and Leona Lewis.
The huge success has left the team behind the site looking for new premises and recruiting for full-time developers. The growth is said to be funded through targeted online advertising, reaching music lovers on a national and global level.
The news of the success comes at a time when Spotify itself has just announced major revamps in this area. Features from Facebook have already been integrated into the service making sharing playlists easier, among other things.
A blog post in TechCrunch speculated on the survival of Sharmyplaylist if Spotify was to introduce more social aspects to its service. However, its “tremendous value beyond the official client” which makes it capable of standing its ground.

The man behind the site
Kieron Donoghue is a Sunderland-based entrepreneur with a strong background in e-commerce. Donoghue has been self-employed for more than 10 years, during which time he has launched numerous websites.
Donoghue is the founder and director of UKOffer.com, a site which brings the latest discount codes, special offers and promotions to its users quickly and easily.
One of Donoghue’s most current ventures is ContentNow.co.uk, a one-stop service offering high-quality, unique web content and link-building – the two factors Donoghue regards as the most important – and most tedious – in SEO.
Donoghue’s tip on how to succeed in affiliate marketing is to base the business on your passion. That way, he said, it’s easier to start creating the best ever site about that given subject.
“Just work hard and imagine what you would want to know if you were a visitor coming to your site and then deliver that.”
