Teleporting in the next ten years?
July 22, 2010 in News Roundup
Not too long ago, we were convinced England had a real chance of winning the World Cup. We’ve recently also bought into the idea that David Cameron is equipped to run the country.
But here’s a delusion to make all others pale in comparison – one third of Britons believe that they’ll be teleporting in a few years time. Teleporting. In a few years time.
A recent survey by Cisco – the computer giant, not the tiny, silver-haired R&B star – asked respondents to give an indication of when they thought certain technologies would be available.
Interestingly, the survey revealed that people didn’t have much faith in technologies which are already available, like video conferencing, but are expecting teleporting to be introduced soon.
Huge leaps in technology since the 1980s have made people increasingly tech savvy and able to navigate through the jungle of complex multimedia devices. However, this doesn’t seem to translate into an awareness of what technology can realistically stretch to.
But who knows, the joke might well turn out to be on the sceptics – when they are whizzing through time and space with the rest of us in 2020!
