Hollywood interest in Angry Birds movie

The developers of the hugely popular iPhone game Angry Birds are reported to be in talks with Hollywood studios.
The hit game, created by the Finnish company Rovio, features a group of Angry Birds on a revenge mission to kill green pigs who stole their eggs. Launched in December last year, the game has sold more than 6.5 million downloads to date.
Now Rovio is looking to use the success to create a major, cross-media franchise, chief executive Mikael Hed told Variety. The company is currently negotiating with potential collaborators to help turn the addictive game into movies, TV shows, toys and comics.
The move would be an unusual one for a mobile game developer, as many would concentrate their efforts on creating the next hit game, but Hed has confidence in the company’s decision.
“There will be a huge concentration of games coming to smart phones,” he said. “We hope we can be the first major franchise to come from mobile.”
On the journey to Hollywood, Rovio has recently opened an office in Silicon Valley and is getting help from high profile Hollywood advisors, including Russell Binder, who has managed Twilight’s licencing programme.
