A Newcastle-based recruitment consultancy has announced that it has expand its team.

Sharpe Recruitment has experienced growing demand for their recruitment service in the digital media, creative, PR, marketing and IT sectors.

The company, headed up by Laura Sharpe, has added Gail Affleck Ward who arrives with 20 years of experience as a communications professional.

Digital sector has social responsibility to fulfil, says TDC speaker Atau Tanaka

atau_tanakaAccording to Atau Tanaka, Director of Newcastle University’s Culture Lab, what it means to be a creative media lab in today’s society is fundamentally different to what it meant 25 years ago.

Back in the mid 80s, when the MIT media lab was founded and researchers were just beginning to innovate with mobile technologies, ‘being digital’ was still a concept.

“Today, the society is digital – the future has arrived and that changes what’s at stake”, Atau said.

“It changes the social relevance and pertinence of a lab like ours to have more of a social function.”
