£495,000 up for grabs for design entrepreneurs

The Keeping Connected Business Challenge, organised by the Technology Strategy Board and the Design Council, is set to divide a pot of £495,000 between design teams that come up with the best ideas.

The brief is ‘to develop innovative services that create, improve and sustain connectedness for older adults to friends, family, the community and younger generations’.

York to trial free wi-fi

york_wifiThe historic City of York is set to mix medieval with modern in its experiment to offer free wi-fi inside its city walls.

The plans are part of the Digital York initiative and Coney Street and St Helen’s Square will be the first places to offer free connectivity this Autumn.

If the pilot proves successful, free wi-fi will be rolled out across the entire area within the city walls.

Local developers to reinvent Gateshead College site

Gateshead College has turned to local talent in its large scale website revamp.

The college has chosen Tyneside-based digital specialist AYO Media to redevelop its corporate website and integrate the new site into its internal network.

As an organisation with a large amount of information to manage, Gateshead College requires its online information to be constantly updated and dynamic.

It was AYO Media’s expertise in handling complex systems and dealing with large amounts of data that won the contract for them.

Work placement student develops app to save Europe’s finances

Georgij Cernysiov, a top student on a training course for aspiring games developers, has managed to publish his own original title during a placement.

While working for Sunderland-based educational software company Caspian Learning, Georgij created and published a humorous mobile app ‘Euro Destruction’ for iPad and iPhone.
