New leaders take GameHorizon Conference into 5th year

The GameHorizon Conference 2012 will take place on 27-28 June at the iconic Sage Gateshead, the organisers have announced.

The fifth annual GameHorizon Conference will take under a new regime.

GameHorizon network founder Carri Cunliffe, who has been conference director since the start of GameHorizon Conference, has stepped down.

Carri has founded her own consultancy business, Secret Sauce, and will continue her support to the North East games industry by being involved in GameHorizon as a member of the advisory board.

Main sponsors make mockery of games event with loutish behaviour

Last night’s Games Media Awards 2011 was terrorised by the headline sponsors of the event, the Newcastle born retailer Grainer Games.

First, the company failed to impress the guests, expecting a nice fancy sit-down meal, with their less classy décor of branded condoms scattered around the tables, midgets in hot-pants, girls in bikinis and a giant orange Humvee.

And it didn’t end there. The awards were given out with drunken braying and bad jokes from the Grainger Games table playing out in the background.

The party also felt like taking over the stage for a self-prompted drunken dance and booing Patrick Garrett’s speech when he presented Colin Campbell with the Games Media Legend Award.

Work placement student develops app to save Europe’s finances

Georgij Cernysiov, a top student on a training course for aspiring games developers, has managed to publish his own original title during a placement.

While working for Sunderland-based educational software company Caspian Learning, Georgij created and published a humorous mobile app ‘Euro Destruction’ for iPad and iPhone.
