New mobile games event launches in Gateshead

GoGoGamesA free half-day mobile games conference and networking event Go Go Games is taking place in Gateshead this May.

Organised by The Hub, Gateshead’s Business Collaboration Network, and GameHorizon, the conference is set to help games developers to focus on the right platforms, content and business models.

Local games developers and students will get the chance to learn from experts as well as network with a national audience of games developers, publishers and aggregators.

Cloud gaming to feature at GameHorizon 2011

One of the most important gaming events in the UK is still two months away but the preparations are well under way.

“It’s going well, we’ve got some great speakers and the sign ups are very good considering we are two months from the actual conference with a third of the delegates already signed up”, Carri says.

Trucks & Skulls opens the Angry Birds rip-off market

A Californian game studio is one the first developers trying to get their share of the huge success of the mobile hit Angry Birds.

Launched 20 November, Appy Entertainment’s rip-off of the hit game has been described as ‘Angry Birds for the Top Gear crowd’.

The birds are replaced by ‘nitro-burning’ monster trucks and the pigs by giant skulls, which explode into radioactive mushroom clouds.

Top tech expert confirmed as GameHorizon speaker

ScottSteinbergScott Steinberg, a celebrated gadget guru and video game expert, is the second confirmed speaker at one of Europe’s leading events for the gaming industry.

Currently head of technology at video game consulting firm TechSavvy Global, Steinberg is joining Louis Castle, CEO of InstantAction Inc, to speak at the fourth annual GameHorizon in June.

Hailed as a top tech expert by publications such as USA Today, Forbes and NPR, Steinberg is the host of online video series GameTheory. He also appears frequently as an on-air technology analyst for ABC, CBS, NBC, FOX and CNN.
