Wired City Reconnected is working in collaboration with Manchester Science Park Limited, Corridor Connections , Manchester DDA, and Manchester Digital to to offer a collaborative business networking event for the growing Greater Manchester digital, creative and ICT cluster.

The organisers are particularly keen to partner with Corridor Connections and its role in promoting innovation and cross sector collaboration along the Corridor Manchester community.

WCR is a ‘purely’ facilitated event, aimed at providing each business with a bespoke programme of introductions to businesses that match their needs.

There are no speakers or talking session, the whole evening is dedicated to explore possible business collaborations.

The organisers are looking to attract 40 -50 business owners and freelancers from the digital, creative and ICT businesses from across Greater Manchester, Stockport, Cheshire, Greater Merseyside, East Lancashire and growing number of Yorkshire based businesses.

There is lots of frees at this event: cold beers / soft drinks, buffet and parking nearby.

Book online in advance to pay only £12.50 per delegate.

Networking experts

WCR has been developing a positive reputation for delivering events across North West Yorkshire, and Lincolnshire.

The success is attributed to creating opportunities for delegates to “do business” without having to listen to sales pitches. According to the delegates, WCR events provide lots of opportunities in a relaxed and friendly environment.

Watch a recent video by one of the delegates (BellyFlop TV) at an event in Stockport to get a better idea on how WCR worked for local businesses.

Date: 17 May 2011, 6 pm
Venue: The Town Wall Public House
Pink Lane, NE1 5HX, Newcastle Upon Tyne
Cost: Free

The fourth PHP North-East community meeting, which this month is taking place in the Cinema Room in the basement of The Town Wall public house.

The meeting is free and open to all. For more information about PHP North-East, you can join their Google Group and follow the group on Twitter to get the latest news.

This month’s event features a talk from Jon Park of happie.st, your social motivation network to explore, create and share in life’s happiest experiences.

Making the Git Happier – Jon Park

Git is an immensely popular version control tool that aims to make risk cheaper. Rather than having to rely on multiple-undos or the autosave functionality of modern editors, Git allows you to control when and how you commit changes to your project; and all without messing up your well-organised file structures.

This talk will start by giving an overview of the basic use of Git to manage a PHP project, working as an individual or small team. It will look at the concept of branching to manage feature development and a tried-and-tested method of branching structure.

The topics of the talk will include:

Initialising your repository

The small handful of commands you need in your day-to-day coding

Branching and merging

Using Dropbox as a central repository for you and your team

Organising your branches for best effect

This will be a brief introduction to the methods successfully co-opted into the workflow at happiest and, if anything, will provide a great springboard to continue your learnings around this great little tool.

Which came first, the talented freelancer or the successful entrepreneur?

It’s the age old question. If you’re a freelancer with skills in sales, IT, PR, marketing, media, digital, writing or design, you want to meet more clients who can use your services. And, if you’re an entrepreneur focused on growth you need a freelance team with the skills to increase your sales. Both parties need connections that will take them to the next level – and relationships that are mutually beneficial.

The Brookson Enterprise Freelance Fair is the answer. Our workshop will help freelancers sharpen their approach and get ready to take on the problems growing businesses need to solve . At the same time, entrepreneurs will discover how to lead a freelance talent pool to promote their own growth and expansion. Then, through our unique tailored introductions and open networking opportunities, we give everyone the chance to meet and match their business requirements to the services of our freelancers and needs of our entrepreneurs.

We give you an opportunity to build a face-to-face network and find out more about the people and businesses you could be working with. You’ll leave the Enterprise Freelance Fair with new connections, new ideas and an improved blueprint for progress.
