Nokia’s lead designer showcases Lumia 800 in the North East

Peter Griffith, lead industrial designer at Nokia, showcased the company’s new Lumia 800 smartphone at an event in the Baltic last week.

The Finnish mobile giant is hoping Lumia 800 will have what it takes to challenge the almighty iPhone in the lucrative smartphone market.

New Media Now spoke to Griffith about the compay’s approach to design and what influences and inspires them.

5 million Ovi downloads for North East apps developers

Newcastle apps and games developer Fluid Pixel has hit 5 million downloads in the Nokia Ovi store.

Since its launch in 2007 Fluid Pixel has enjoyed consistent growth and has featured on the Ovi Store’s top developer list for a while now.

“Part of our success has been targeting the whole range of Nokia devices, from legacy S40 devices to the latest and greatest smart phones”, Fluid Pixel wrote on their blog.

Farewell to phone chargers?

nokia_charger_(1)The Finnish phone manufacturer Nokia has patented a technology that could enable the first self-charging mobile phones to be produced, The Times Online reports.

The innovative concept uses piezoelectric crystals and kinetic energy to charge up the device as the person carrying it is moving around. The technology is planned to be introduced first to mobile phones but could also be transferred to any portable electronic device.
