We intended to comment on the seemingly pointless Qriocity streaming service recently launched by Sony in the UK but, well, the Guardian has been kind enough to already do so in their technology blog.
While NMM always tries to remain impartial and write unbiased reviews, we can’t help but agree with the writer. Of course we are always happy to be proved wrong but the Qriocity (pronounced ‘curiosity’ we assume) service appears to be moving the industry backwards, not forwards.

Carphone Warehouse’s new music streaming service ‘Music Anywhere’ puts your song libraries in the cloud.
The new service allows users to access their entire collections whenever, wherever, regardless of the capacity of their MP3 player.
Using Catch Media’s Play Anywhere platform, the service scans users’ collections and matches it up with its own database. A digital copy of a track that can’t be found in the database is automatically created and added to the user’s online account.

ITV has rolled out a free, ad-funded app to watch World Cup matches live on an iPhone. The app will feature all the games to be broadcast on ITV1, as well as further matches to be broadcast on ITV4. The ITV website will also feature live coverage of the tournament.
Fifa.com will be the main source of information for many football fans. Ready to take on the flood of visitors, the site can be personalised by registering and logging in. Fifa has also adapted a Twitter-like approach with a live stream of information and links.

Music streaming services are becoming increasingly attractive to advertisers as their audiences grow rapidly in size, New Media Age reports.
Ad-funded music streaming service We7 announced reaching a tipping point in March – for the first time monthly streaming costs were fully covered by ad revenue.
According to the CEO of We7 Steve Purdham, the service has grown from 10,000 users in 2008 to 3 million in only two years.

Swedish streaming software Spotify announced on Monday the launch of a music application for the Symbian platform, used by the world’s biggest mobile phone maker Nokia and other smartphones.
Only customers who subscribe to Symbian’s paying premium service will be able to download the software application onto their smartphones, the company said in a statement.
