Got an extra $1m? Buy an ad slot in the 'Lost' Finale

lost_finaleA 30-second ad slot in the final episode of the popular TV series ‘Lost’ is currently going for around $900,000, the AdAge reports.

According to the article, the pricing has gone up 400% on last year’s $213,536 for a 30-second spot and is not far under the price for an ad slot in the Oscars broadcast.

The hefty cost is said to demonstrate advertisers’ increasing interest in what’s being called ‘event programming’. As people are turning to online on-demand services to watch shows in their own time, it has become much more difficult for advertisers to assemble a large crowd to which they can show their adverts.

3D hype gathers momentum with gaming and TV channel plans

1554 Monica MulkensThe gaming giant Nintendo announced earlier this week plans to release a hand-held gaming device that will provide 3D images without the need for glasses.

The new device, dubbed ‘Nintendo 3DS’, hasn’t been given an exact release date but the excited gamers will get a sneak peak in June at the annual video games show in Los Angeles.

The 3D hype is set to take off this year with full speed. Following the huge success of films, such as Avatar and Alice in the Wonderland in cinemas, the technology is now ready to be introduced on TV screens.

Google empire takes on TV

googletvInternet giant Google has built a prototype set-top box to bring the web to TV screens, the New York Times reports.

Dubbed ‘Google TV’, the project is being carried out in collaboration with Intel and Sony. It’s believed to have been underway for several months but none of the companies have yet publicly commented on the reports.

Sony makes 3D priority in 2010 strategy

3d_glassesSony has unveiled plans to rapidly boost its 3D product range over the next year, launching TV, Blu-ray and gaming products with the technology.

The entertainment company said it would launch 3D-related products for the home, including TV, Blu-ray Disc players/recorders and 3D gaming on PlayStation3.

It has a target revenue from 3D-related products of more than one trillion yen by 2013.

Thousands shun colour television

Almost 30,000 people across the UK still tune into their favourite programmes on black and white TV sets.

The figures were released by TV Licensing to mark the 40th anniversary of the first colour transmissions on BBC1 and ITV.

The 28,000 black and white licence holders included 1,950 in Scotland.

The figures showed the black and white sets have not yet been consigned to history despite the rise of flat-screens and the iPlayer.
