Google short film celebrates 2011 – and Google

“We made it”, proclaims Google’s short film charting the events on 2011.

At the end of a film which references many of the terrible and memorable events of last year, the statement sounds like a celebration of the human spirit.

The video leaves you with a warm feeling full of pride in people’s ability to overcome obstacles – and a strong after-taste of self-congratulatory double-meaning.

Google made it. Google made the year 2011. And to think I’d been getting all emotional.

Viral iPad slap video at last locates the USP of the tablet

When Apple designed the iPad they had to work hard to convince many of it’s USP – those features that made it different from what came before.

At last, someone seems to have discovered the true benefit of the new technology – when push comes to shove, the iPad is a remarkably good thing to hit your annoying brother very hard in the face with.

Its lightweight build means you can swing it towards the face with some force and that flat screen will cause untold pain.

The same swinging motion, when performed with a heavy laptop, will allow the little terror to escape. Try it with a mobile phone and you won’t cause a scratch.

Chris Taylor's Superkrush is set to thrive in a video-focused marketing future.

A North East marketing-film company Superkrush is looking to expand as it celebrates its 10th birthday.

Initially a team of six, Superkrush is set to expand to a team of nine over the coming months and they are looking to capitalise on the “huge opportunities” presented in social media and technology.

Superkrush’s managing director Chris Taylor explained the importance of video as part of the marketing of a modern business.

“Video is predicted to account for 90% of all online traffic by 2013, so businesses are recognising the need for good content and the potential reach film has over other marketing tools,” he said.

700 billion YouTube views in 2010

YouTube has announced that its users have uploaded more than 13 million hours of video content to its servers in the last 12 months, resulting in more than 700 billion YouTube video views.

If you do the math, it means that YouTube’s users have uploaded 850,000 minutes of video and watched 1.9 billion videos per day in the past year. In March, the Google-owned video site announced that its users were uploading more than 24 hours of video per minute. In May, YouTube revealed that it had surpassed 2 billion video views per day.

French Connection customers to buy straight from YouTube

FC_YouTubeFrench Connection has become the first brand to create a YouTube shop in the UK by utilising the site’s Annotations feature.

The French Connection YouTique video-shop allows users to click on items on the video and buy them on the fashion retailer’s site.

The videos, which are being presented by fashion journalist Louise Roe, will feature fashion tips and style advice based on themes.
