Google short film celebrates 2011 – and Google

“We made it”, proclaims Google’s short film charting the events on 2011.

At the end of a film which references many of the terrible and memorable events of last year, the statement sounds like a celebration of the human spirit.

The video leaves you with a warm feeling full of pride in people’s ability to overcome obstacles – and a strong after-taste of self-congratulatory double-meaning.

Google made it. Google made the year 2011. And to think I’d been getting all emotional.

Viral iPad slap video at last locates the USP of the tablet

When Apple designed the iPad they had to work hard to convince many of it’s USP – those features that made it different from what came before.

At last, someone seems to have discovered the true benefit of the new technology – when push comes to shove, the iPad is a remarkably good thing to hit your annoying brother very hard in the face with.

Its lightweight build means you can swing it towards the face with some force and that flat screen will cause untold pain.

The same swinging motion, when performed with a heavy laptop, will allow the little terror to escape. Try it with a mobile phone and you won’t cause a scratch.

Aleksandr the Meerkat – an ambassador for affiliate marketing

Featuring a Russian meerkat Aleksandr Orlov, the viral ad campaign was praised for making the rather unexciting prospect of comparing insurance prices funny and interesting.

The idea is, as Aleksandr would describe it, ‘simples’. The ad campaign features a frustrated Aleksandr complaining that everyone keeps coming to his website in search of cheap insurance deals.

Another YouTube hit for T-Mobile

German mobile phone company T-Mobile have had a YouTube hit with an advert for the second time in quick succession.

Featuring passengers at Heathrow Airport being greeted by singers, ‘Welcome back’ has received more than 2 million hits since it was posted on 29 October.

Nike paints a World Cup horror picture in teaser

Bloated Wayne Rooney cooks baked beans in a caravan after a World Cup disaster in a new Nike ad teaser.

Titled ‘Write the Future’, the clip features two Rooney’s neighbours on the caravan park talking about a failed pass to Theo Walcott, after which it all went downhill. A Nike billboard in the background depicts a victorious Franck Ribery.
